Two soldiers, Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre were accused of killing two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala in 2012. Today’s Supreme Court said that now it will take the case on April 19, saying it will disburse the number to the victim’s family.
The Supreme Court today said it would cover a criminal case against two Italian marines only after the Indian government deposited a number of compensation of ₹ 10 crores with it. Two soldiers, Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre were accused of killing two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala in 2012, but an international court decided that the duo had to be tried in Italy.
Victim’s family agreed to be compensated
The center on Wednesday told the court that the victim’s family agreed to be compensated. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has asked the bench to take the matter to hear today because there was some urgency between the two countries.Today’s Supreme Court order said that now it will take the case on April 19, saying it will disburse the number to the victim’s family.
The Italian government said that it would transfer money
The Italian government said that it would transfer money so India provides an account number that must be transferred to money. This center will provide details and, within three days after receiving money, deposit it with the Supreme Court. Referring to the central urgency in a lighter vein, Chief Justice Sharad Bobde told the Solicitor General, “We will love the same speed in ordinary things too. Usually, the government is looking for a delay of two weeks, eight weeks, etc.”
Mehta answered, “it depends on which service we face.”
The court heard a center’s petition to close the delayed criminal trial against two marines in India.
